The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have identified and taken down 129 social media profiles across various platforms over the last month. These accounts were actively operating and running 494 paid advertisements promoting various online gaming and betting applications and websites targeting users in India. As part of its sustained and proactive cyber surveillance initiatives, the unit has achieved a significant breakthrough in curbing the menace of illegal online betting and gaming promotions.
According to officials, these advertisements were strategically designed to attract vulnerable users, particularly youth, by promising easy money, assured returns, bonuses, and referral commissions. The identified profiles were systematically circulating promotional content, referral links, and inducement-based schemes to lure the public into participating in unlawful wagering and betting activities.
As a precautionary and preventive measure, all 129 identified profiles have been reported to the platforms concerned and taken down to prevent further dissemination of such unlawful content, stated the DCP for Cyber Crime.
The official added that the unit has so far removed a cumulative total of 209 social media profiles and 746 paid promotional advertisements for promoting online gaming, illegal betting, and fake investment websites. Further investigation is underway to trace the individuals and financial channels associated with these profiles, and legal action will be initiated under relevant provisions. The Cyber Crime department advised citizens that online betting and gambling activities are strictly prohibited in Telangana. Participating in or promoting such activities may attract penal action.
Individuals sharing such links through social media may also be liable for legal consequences. Public advice remains clear do not download or register on unauthorised online betting platforms or share referral links of such applications. Parents and guardians are particularly requested to counsel young individuals about the risks and legal implications associated with online gambling. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious online activities immediately by calling the toll-free number 1930 or visiting the official national cybercrime reporting portal. This ongoing cyber patrol remains a priority to protect the public from financial exploitation and the rising risks associated with unregulated digital wagering platforms operating within the region.
